Manderley, St. Lucia

Manderley sits on a hillside in Cap Estate, facing the length of St. Lucia. The tip of the landmark mountains,  the Pitons, is visible over the distant hills. Made of wood, this iconic house – known locally as ‘The Gingerbread House’, is a distillation of Caribbean and Colonial architecture. The lacy fretwork decoration diffuses the wind and light and creates  the calm and cool interior. The views from the terrace are a never ending source of delight – in the distance,  the town of Gros Islet, Rodney Bay Marina, Pigeon Island and the Caribbean Sea. Visible to the left,  the golf course and Atlantic.

Below is the world famous resort, Le Sport Hotel,  3/4 of a mile from the house.

The three main bedrooms feature romantic four poster king size beds and there is a great luxury in being able to lie in bed and look out over the island, blue sea, and the gardens and pool.

The Great Room features caribbean antiques collection of prints and antique maps, and a mahogany estate table suitable for celebratory dinners. It’s a lovely room to while away the day in the cool and shady space. The magnificent chandeliers add a glamourous touch to the otherwise laid back atmosphere. When the candles are lit, and the blue and white Spode dinner service laid out, the Great Room has a class all of it’s own.
